| - Soma This may all be very silly to you.. but, The rumor is. The Smashing Pumpkins are reuniting. It's been going pretty stong the last month, with this crpyic message on http://billycorgan.org/ and, various rumors of them playing Festivals such as Coachella, and most recently, Lollapalooza. To me, this is probably the greatest thing i've ever heard in my entire life. Sadly, I got into Pumpkins too late, and was never able to see them live. I truely believe in my opinion, that they are one of the greatest American bands of the last 20 years.. and, will definitly go down in music history.
The rumor goes that the Pumpkins so far have Billy, and their drummer Jimmy Chamberlin back, and ready to make music. So, thats two down. Two to go. The next step is to get James Iha back, who I personally believe that without which, The Pumpkins just wouldn't be the Pumpkins. Then comes the hard part. Getting D'Arcy back in the group. As a huge fan of D'Arcy.. that would be a dream to come true to say the least. I grew up having the biggest crush on her.. and, to see all four of the original Pumpkins back together, would be amazing.
If D'Arcy doesn't happen to want to be a part of it, I'd be more than happy with their second bassist, Mellissa Auf Der Maur playing for them. She's a phenomenal bassist.. and she always seemed much friendlier, than D'Arcy. Meaning, They could stay around longer. Alot of this news actually comes from Melissa herself. She was inteviewed by MTV.com and said the following.
"Auf Der Maur said it wouldn't be a true Pumpkins reunion without D'Arcy's bass. "The coolest thing would be if D'Arcy was around, but I don't know where she's at and I don't think [Corgan or Chamberlin] do either," she said. "But I feel very comfortable being second best.""
It's starting to look like this could actually possibly happen.. and, if so. I'm going to this year's Lollapalooza. If anyone wants to go with me, they're welcome to.
